HOBOS 101: THE RETURN OF THE HOBO COLLEGE
Hark, hark, the dogs do bark! For one night only, the Hobo College of old reconvenes. Topics to be discussed include “Panhandling vs. Mooching”; “Riding the Rails: Over, Under, or In”; “The American Tramp, Then and Now”; “The Secret of the Big Rock Candy Mountain”; and “The Great Windsor-Clifton Beggars Banquet of 1908.” True blowed-in-the-glass stiffs will be on hand to lend their expert opinions. Scissorbills and shacks need not attend.

Paul Durica is a graduate student at the University of Chicago specializing in American literature about tramps, hobos, and transients. His writing has appeared or is forthcoming in ACM, Proximity, AREA, Tin House, Indiana Review, Mid-American Review, and other places. He is the founder and sole proprietor of Pocket Guide to Hell, est. in Hyde Park, 2008.
